Athens
Athens was the largest and most prosperous city in Ancient Greece. It was named after the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom. The most famous monument Parthenon, which was built in 432 B.C. on the acropolis hill. The Acropolis is also known as the "sacred rock" of Athens. Athens is the city where democracy was born, and citizens were able to speak there mind freely. However women were not treated equally among men, and slavery was permitted. Athens is the birthplace of Socrates, Plato, Sophocles and Euripides.
